Hi, anyone going to Ani in Duluth? We're wondering if it's possible to bring a camera into the show and how tight the security is in terms of this. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure this hasn't been posted here yet. I found this stream of an entire Ani concert from earlier this year. I'm almost through the whole thing, and I think it's a pretty damn good show. Tons of new songs. Take a look!

just wanted to say, I live and work in Coldfoot, Alaska, and started a poet society, where Ani was featured somewhat regularly (her "Verses") ... read her over bonfires and between slanting sheets of rain and through the famous mosquitoes: ajd this is said by someone who knows: she has never been more honored north of the arctic circle than she has been this summer, by me and my "dead poets society." she was the "living" poet who cropped up occassionally. We drew straws to see who would read what (dead poet, living poet, original work, etc.) and she came up time and again. I am one of four people who KNOW, Coldfoot summer 09 is the year of Ani

so ani is coming here on oct. 23rd and is playing at the crystal ballroom.
annnnd the most amazing thing is that my friend does sound for that venue so he's getting me into the show for free!
which is perfect because i know her portland shows sell out way to fast for me and i'm going back to school so money is non-existent.

so anyway i was just sharing my exciting news and also wondering what songs she's been playing on this tour? or at least what albums she's been mostly playing from..? her self titled album is my favorite and it's harder for me to get into her more "studio-sounding" stuff :/

but none-the-less, eeps so excited :D

How Have You Been: chipperchipper
So, this is a little bit random, but my sister (who lives in New Orleans) just called me to SQUEEEE because she just served THE Ani Difranco ice cream at the ice cream parlor she works at to help pay her way through biomedical graduate school, The Creole Creamery!

Had to pass it along someone (or a community of someones) else!

Apparently, my sister had actually seen Ani there before, but she was never quite sure it was her because one must be sure about these things before they make a big fuss about them! But this time, as Ani was getting out cash to pay, my sister happened to see a flash of her driver's license!

That sounds really creepy, but she swears she wasn't trying to see it!

Anyway, my sister held her composure until Ani left and then grabbed all her nearest coworkers to tell them who it was, and they were naturally very excited as well!! My sister said if she sees her again, she might ask for a photo with her - do you think she would be cool with that? I'm inclined to think so, but my judgement might be clouded by my desire to live vicariously through my sister!

How Have You Been: curiouscurious
Just curious since I am currently listening to the song ... Is the song 'Letter to John' about someone in particular? I'm assuming it's Ani taking the voice of someone else in that song.

Now onto the main reason I decided to post here. I'm going to see Ani next month in Ann Arbor and was wondering if anyone in this community had seen a recent show of hers. What is her set list like this time around? We can always assume 'Little Plastic Castle' will be played, but what about the others?

Hey all-

Just wanted to pass along a link so you can watch a few videos of Ani's performance at Bonnaroo this past June. I was there, made it front row and center. She played an amazing set, everything was just so right. I've seen her 9x and this was my favorite performance. :) any one else make it?

Here's the link: http://music.att.net Just click on the Bonnaroo icon under concerts, then scroll to Ani's name on the side. ps. Jenny Lewis was incredible too!

peace.

So, I'm planning a trip to the US in a few months time and I just got the latest RBR emailout, with additional tour dates.

Two shows in cities I'm planning to visit - PDX and Seattle - how happy am I?!

So, anybody else going to either of these shows?

And, having never been to a show in the US before, what can I expect?
Australian audiences are really relaxed and easy going - fairly different to what I've heard about the US.

Back in May, tickets went on sale for an ani difranco concert in Pittsburgh. I know tickets to her shows usually sell out fast, so I bought mine the very day the went on sale.

Unfortunately, I neglected to write the date of the concert in my date book.

The concert? Was this past Wednesday. The ticket? Is still in my wallet. And I, as I'm sure you have already correctly assumed, was not there.

$40 down the drain and I didn't get to see ani. :(

Kinda weird question about somethng I never really thought about before. I remember getting Little Plastic Castles when it first came out and honestly It's one of my top 5 Ani Albums in that is kicks sooo much ass. Anyway, I was just now cruising around online and jamming out when Deep Dish comes on and Im listening and Ive always heard it but never thought too much about it. Who is the guy that talks around the middle? Unfortunately I cannot make out much but there's the "Before there was long, there was short. Before there was short, there was nothing. Before nothing, there was the possibility of something...etc." Scott, maybe? Have no idea...Andy? As an example of how long ago I got this album-it was on cassette..lol. ANNND Ive lost the liner.. Anyway,, just something small that finally got me wondering today. "Who is that guy?" It's an awesome bridge..

ENJOY BONNAROO FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME!

Didn’t get tickets to the Bonnaroo festival this year? That doesn’t mean you have to miss the Little Folksinger (or any of the other amazing performances for that matter). For the full festival experience put on some patchouli, smear a little mud on your sandaled feet and invite a bunch of friends to dance with you around your computer room… then go to music.att.net and watch Ani live online at 6:30p CST tonight!

Hey folks,
I just browsed really quick back through this comm and I noticed that nobody posted the National Geographic GeoSessions thing that Ani did back in April. I stumbled across them today and they are fantastic - a mix of some great interviews and a few lovely songs. Anyway, here are the links and pardon the re-post if I happened to have missed it.

helllllo,

I've never seen Ani in a general admission show so I don't know what to expect when I see her in July. is it necessary to get there really early if you want to be in the front of the line or will i be alright arriving around the time doors open to go in? and who has been opening for her?

thank you! and i am real excited.

Hey everyone,

I'm really sorry about all the spam postings that've been appearing on the community lately. :-( I'm sure many of you have noticed by now that there's been a rash of community spamming going on all over Livejournal over the last several weeks.

In order to reduce the amount of spam you see on your Friends listI have enabled moderation of new postings. This means there will be a bit of a delay when you post a new entry to the community, but it also means you won't have to see some stupid bullcrap on your Friends list.

For now, much love and peace to you all... have a good week!!

How Have You Been: peacefulpeaceful
some crazy fucker carved a sculpture out of butter
and propped it up in the middle of the bonanza breakfast bar
and i am stuffing toast and sausage into my pockets
under a sign that says GRAND OPENING
while my dog is waiting in the car

i wake up, check out
i fill the tank and wash the windshield clean
then i'm back out on the highway
and BANG that's when i remember my dream:

we were standing in a garden
and i had a machine that made silence
it just sucked up the whole opinionated din
and then there were no people on payroll
and then there were no monkeys on our backs
and i said, show me what you look like
without skin

science chases money
and money chases tail
and the best minds of my generation
can't make bail
but the bacteria are coming to take us down
that's my prediction
it's the answer to this culture
of the quick fix prescription

but in the garden of simple
where all of us are nameless
you were never anything but beautiful to me
and, you know, they never really owned you
you just carried them around
and then one day you put 'em down
and found your hands were free

so now it's early in the morning
at the longitude of memphis
and the sun is setting sweetly on hong kong
and the big plan is just to keep spinning
cuz the big bang is only just beginning
and sometimes it's all that we can do just to hang on

and what i mean to say is xxoo which means i'm thinking of ya
which means i've been thinking of you
all along

Hey,
The previous post was actually from a different festival a few days prior to Pete's birthday. I did find a video of Ani doing the song that night with Bruce Cockburn. Notice the last 2 verses, which I'm pretty sure Ani wrote and added to the song.
